He’s shown afros. He’s shown bunny ears He’s shown uber-slicked back hair and glittery sweaters. So what will Marc Jacobs come up with next?
For Fall/Winter 2010, it was all about showing off one asset – the bust. In the same vein as Prada this season, the Marc Jacobs-designed Louis Vuitton collection was geared towards accenting the womanly figure via corsets, belted waists, 50’s-style flouncy skirts, fitted tops/cardigans, and deep cuts.
So many designers have offered us stunning clothing this season, but few offer pieces that are versatile enough to truly flatter an array of body types. Jacobs seemed to have designed his collection this season with “real women” in mind, while offering a slew of patterns, prints, and monochromatic separates to suit a variety of tastes.
This collection was a celebration of women (no pants were shown), and even when busts were prominently on display, there was nothing vulgar about the collection. While I don’t often associate Louis Vuitton with eveningwear, this season brought some interestingly proportioned strapless patterned looks that were decently heavy and almost Victorian-like in their elegance. If this is a return to old Hollywood glamour, let’s just hope young Hollywood takes note.
As for the bags, can one really go wrong with an embroidered or exotic Speedy? New retro 50’s-style handbags and clutches were also introduced (along with takes on the classic Speedy and monogram print), and were shown primarily in exotic skins, finished with signature LV gold hardware.
