PRINCE PETER’S MATERIAL WORLD: A TFS EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Utilizing photographer Mick Rock’s extensive archive of rock images from 1979-2009, designer Prince Peter created a line of t-shirts that stand for all things 80’s. Black and white photos of Duran Duran, Michael Jackson crowd-surfing, and David Bowie performing are silk-screened onto cotton t’s. Perfect for that late night rocker look, the t-shirts go well with ripped leggings, accessorized with an armful of bangles or lace gloves. Better yet, since the line is unisex, you can dress your favorite pretty boy in the same look.

The Spring/Summer 2010 collection was shown at the super exclusive EVA NY boutique on Bowery last September, and Prince Peter’s designs have already found their way into the closets of It-girls like Chanel Iman, Rihanna, and Taylor Momsen

Since the line debuted, risqué videos have kept the t-shirts (and their designer) in the limelight. The Detroit native has gotten press all over the web, from Papermag.com to whowhatwear.com, to Dazed Digital and the WWD.  Just in time, he’s releasing a slew of Madonna-inspired t’s that mix material girl iconography with graphic design. Quel chaude!

Prince Peter took a few minutes out of his admirably busy schedule to share a few tidbits about what’s coming up in the fall.

tFS:  How has the t-shirt line done since the show?

Prince Peter: The line has done so, so great since the show. It has already been picked for some great stores for spring summer, like B Blessing, and has been seen on some really cool people like Rihanna. I’m way excited!

Prince Peter: My line is all about the spirit and love for rock ‘n’ roll. Each collection will feature collaborations with pioneers of rock. I can’t say who is next, but it’s going to be amazing.

Prince Peter: Most definitely. I will always love T-shirts because they don’t limit me to one gender or type of person, but I have so much more creativity in me than that. For Fall I created 6 outerwear pieces, and so far the response has been great!
