FASHION’S NIGHT OUT AMPS UP

Last season’s Fashion’s Night Out was a bit too claustrophobic for my taste – although that was perhaps because I opted to go to Barney’s, Bergdorf, and other similarly popular destinations. But despite my own pronounced space issues, there was no question that the event was a great way to boost morale and excitement around the fashion industry.

Most impressive was the fact that all the buzz meant that even people who never seemed to have had an interest in shopping – let alone fashion – were excited enough to check out the various festivities. Months later, I still see people walking around NYC streets in those Fashion’s Night Out-branded T-shirts (all the more surprising given how decidedly un-fashionable they are).

The team behind the global iniatiave has been amping up their game for the next event, and now they’ll be coming out with a slew of more fashion-forward branded items to support the NYC Aids Fund.

The second iteration of the now-annual event will be held on September 10th to coincide with the start of the Spring/Summer 2010 New York Fashion Week collections.  To build buzz, short and long-sleeved T-shirts, tanks, and unisex hoodies will be sold, each of which are designed with the initiative’s logo and a new abstract cityscape print.

I’m glad they decided to go with something more original that ties into New York City, and I hope that the same buzz we experienced last year will be back come Fall.  Now, imagine if Anna Wintour was photographed in one of the hoodies…that would be a serious buzz generator.
