WHITNEY PORT’S “WHITNEY EVE” COLLECTION

Season two of The City is already in full swing, and Whitney Port is at the center of it all. Ever since The Hills, Whitney has always stood out as the one who really had her head in the game. To her, life in Los Angeles wasn’t about gossip, or who was dating whom. Her focus was on her career, and moving her way up in the fashion world.

Ever since she shifted gears and moved to New York City to pursue a career in fashion, she has narrowed her ambitions slightly, taking a more creative route. With the start of season two, it looks like she’s taking her role as a designer seriously with her first full-blown runway show, overseen by Kelly Cutrone’s publicity savvy and direction. Although we can’t take the fashion world as seen through MTV’s glamour lens too seriously, and we still need a lot more coaxing to believe that Port’s designs are ones she created all on her own, it’s impossible not to love her drive and motivation. Plus, the clothes in her Spring 2010 collection are really pretty, which doesn’t hurt.

The Whitney Eve girl dresses for herself and loves the feel of silky soft fabrics that drape naturally against her body without exposing too much. What stood out the most about this collection was that I could imagine Port herself wearing each piece: her personal taste for soft and romantic patterns in free-flowing shapes, as displayed on The Hills and The City, comes through loud and clear.

Amidst the overly edgy and dark looks that have monopolized the catwalks during recent seasons, Port’s perfectly polished collection was a fresh spot of sunshine. Sometimes we just want to throw our heels on and get really girly, and Whitney Eve gives us the clothes for that, whether we are dressing for a date, or a night out on the town with friends.
