Steven Meisel does 'Chic Nomad' for Vogue September 2010

Runway / News
August 31, 2010

Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn, Liu Wen, Kasia Struss, Magdalena Frackowiak, and Joan Smalls come together in this creative story pulling inspiration from all cultures to convey the “chic nomad” trend seen on many runways for this fall.

The first look we have had into Vogue’s long-awaited September issue is a six page spread shot by renowned photographer, Steven Meisel.

Most of the spread pulls looks from this season’s most ornate and feminine pieces from the runways of Roberto Cavalli and John Galliano.

At Roberto Cavalli, layers of velvet, sheer fabrics, and baroque fabrics were present in every single look, all in darker, rich hues, with touches of metallic threads here or there.

John Galliano looked specifically to the nomads of eastern Russia, which he similarly did last fall.

Heavy white and silver furs opened the collections, easily layered over textured fabrics, as seen in the editorial spread.

Fur is a key piece to achieve the entire “chic nomad” look, along with some texture, perfectly executed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel this fall. An example of the jacket is worn by Karlie Kloss in the spread.

Next, it is all about the mixing of prints to go along with your warm furs and textured fabric.

Colorful floral floor-length dresses were seen at both Ralph Lauren and Rodarte.

Always a classic designer, Ralph Lauren knows how to create that perfect feminine floral that can fit into any wardrobe.

Similar floral patterns, large and small, were seen at Rodarte in all shades of pink.

Layered over the dresses and skirts are Christopher Bailey’s impeccable shearling bomber jackets for Burberry Prorsum.

The cut of the jackets and tones of the rich brown leathers used only complement wild patterns, to create the ultimate stand out trend for fall.
