Grace Coddington's Autobiography

Runway / News
August 30, 2010

Fans of the Vogue powerhouse are already buzzing with anticipation about the book, which will reportedly cover her early life in Wales, her modeling days in 60's London, the car accident that changed her career path, and her ascendancy through fashion’s ranks as a stylist and editor.

Ever since the release of the documentary film The September Issue, Vogue’s creative director Grace Coddington has seen her star rise exponentially (much in the same way that Giancarlo Giammetti saw his profile rise after the release of Valentino: The Last Emperor).

Given the newfound interest in the flame-haired Vogue veteran, it’s the perfect time for her to be working on an autobiography.

Coddington is currently working with former Men’s Vogue editor-in-chief Jay Fielden on a proposal for the book.

Coddington told the daily paper that she and Fielden are just starting work on the project and that she anticipates that it will be “really fun.”

She added that she’s hoping “it’s going to be very rich in fashion history,” beyond just being about her life.

The editorial duo - who have previously collaborated on Coddington’s 2002 coffee-table book, Grace: Thirty Years of Fashion at Vogue - are said to be signed with literary agent Elyse Cheney, and the plan is to shop the proposal to publishers this fall.

Fans of the red haired Vogue powerhouse are already buzzing with anticipation about the book, which will reportedly cover her “early life in Wales, her modeling days in 60's London, the car accident that changed her career path, and her ascendancy through fashion’s ranks as a stylist and editor at British Vogue and, later, its American counterpart.
