Matthew Williamson S/S 2011: London Fashion Week

His gypsy styles have entranced style denizens, both in the world of celebrity, and – thanks to his hugely successful collaboration with H&M – the public.

With the exception of a few hits of citrus, pink, and cobalt blue, the palette was mainly earth tones. Williamson is known for flouncy party dresses and separates, and despite this collection being slightly more subdued color-wise, he showed exactly what we have come to expect from him.

The designer’s inspiration was a girl with a western wardrobe who was cast away on an island, where her youthful clothes take on a note from nature.

The white tent built inside the historic Deco building, the Battersea Power Station, provided a great contrast of raw space with western modernity.

The inspiration may have been evident in the first series of looks, but as the show progressed, the looks became more polished and reflected the predictable nature of Williamson’s collection.

The Williamson girl may have started off on a far away island, but she slowly crept back to the party shores from which she came.
