Chanel Pre-Fall 2011

Karl Lagerfeld held the show for his Pre-Fall 2011 Chanel collection on the second floor of the eponymous Maison on Rue Cambon in Paris.

The collection was inspired by the empress Theodora, and the lost culture of Byzantium. Focusing heavily on luxurious fabrics like heavy wool and tweed, the collection consists mainly of swinging capes and traditional Chanel skirt suits.

Emerald green outfits were accessorized with gold trimmings and jewels, and decadence took on a new meaning when a dropped shoulder evening dress and those classic skirt suits hit the runway. Stunning suede thigh-high boots in a candy-colored array of sky blues and maroon reds offset the heavy fabrics and costume jewelry perfectly, making each piece a perfect representation of Byzantine glamour.
