Maria Grachvogel Fall 2011 Runway Review

In the lush surroundings of the ballroom in the Savoy hotel, print master Maria Grachvogel showed her sinister fall collection. From the moment the first look debuted, it was evident that this would be a strong season for the designer, as the expert draping and cut moved fluidly and commanded every eye in the room.

Inspiration was drawn from the enchanted forests and the Brothers Grimm fairytales and with a palette of ebony, bone, grey, and blush, the designer showed her impressive draping skills with long billowing skirts, artfully draped dresses, and effortless jumpsuits.

A capsule handbag collection, which offered simple woven bags that, frankly, were unnecessary, and collaboration with famed jewelry designer Erickson Beamon resulted in show stopping, deco and feather adorned pieces. The mixture of cool autumnal prints with fabrics such as cashmere, tweed, lace, georgette, and silk resulted in a cohesive and well-rounded collection of statement pieces that could easily be worn everyday, day into night.
