Meadham Kirchhoff Fall 2011 Runway Review

There is an air of mystery that surrounds the design duo Meadham Kirchhoff and this presentation was no different. Held at the Topshop space in Old Billingsgate Market, attendees were greeted by large shrines with chicken wire fences, dead flowers, haphazardly scrawled signs, and faded photos. Unsure of what to expect, we waited patiently for the Fashion Forward winners’ show to begin. Madonna’s ‘What It Feels Like to Be a Girl’ introduction played before a sinister mix of sounds seemingly straight off The Shining soundtrack.

The models stormed the catwalk all at once and preceded to take two finale style processions around the catwalk and they were gone as fast as the came. Leaving the viewers a bit dazed, it required a bit of time to recall the dramatic Amish-style dresses and witchy schoolgirl looks. If Rodarte was a love letter to the idyllic prairies, Meadhafim Kirchhoff’s girls were from the wrong side of the field.

Multi hemmed skirts and apron dresses were noteworthy looks from the collection that we had been promised would be filled with revolt, texture, and minimalism and the designers surely succeeded in one of the most exciting presentations of the week.
