Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 Runway Review

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have always done menswear interpreted for a woman’s body well, and this season they relied heavily on their ability to do just that. Though not the high voltage, super-tailored menswear-inspired looks we’ve seen from them in the past (and thank goodness for that, given the amount of designers who have come out with their own uber-fitted suits as of late), the double-breasted jackets, suspenders, collared shirts, loose pinstriped jackets, and roomy coats had a practical and comfortably chic appeal to them, especially when done-up with sequin embellishments for flirty frill.

The other major theme of the show was stars, literally. Stars made their way onto sheer, featherweight draped silk chiffon gowns, sexy cocktail looks, separates, and even onto the lapel of a suiting look. They came in both big and small sizes (along with everything in between), and included prints, sequins, crystals, fur, and coordinating accessories. Given the designers’ affinity for Hollywood, they couldn’t have picked a more fitting reoccurring motif.
