Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 Runway Review

Forget about hiding your wealth, extravagant purchases – or your kinky side. This season’s Marc Jacobs-designed Louis Vuitton collection was all about overt luxury and overt sexuality. The former translated most literally via the famed LV monogram, which was back this season in full force, making its way onto countless accessories including handbags, shoes, and hats. As for the latter running theme, hand cuff bracelets, fetish eye masks, rubber boots, and models pairing police-style hats with fully exposed legs were just some of the kinky twists rampant at this season’s engrossing Vuitton show.

The blend of Marie Antoinette-esque bourgeoisie with S&M, made for a number of stand out looks in a lineup of mostly strictly tailored pieces including a slew of military inspired coats and blazers, textured scale-like below-the-knee skirts, and somewhat Miu Miu-esque 40s military wife-style print dresses with contrasting white collars. Luxurious touches were bountiful and included fur outerwear and accents on separates, delicate embroidery, lightly scalloped edges, diamond-accented jewelry, and python.

In true dramatic Jacobs fashion, the show closed with Kate Moss, just one of the handful of supermodels that walked the runway at the show, taking to the runway in knee-high crocodile boots, retro briefs, a lamb and rubber jacket, gloves, and a cigarette in hand.
