Giorgio Armani Prive Haute Couture Fall 2011 Runway Review

Someone alert Duchess Kate because the Giorgio Armani Prive Fall 2011 Haute Couture collection had some show-stopping head pieces. Created by royal and celebrity favorite Philip Treacy, the sculptural head toppers came in an array of origami-like shapes and colors to complement the Japan-inspired Prive collection. Cate Blanchett, Katie Holmes, and Olivia Palermo were just some of the boldface names that made their way to Paris for the show.

Sleek, chic, and impeccably tailored, the designer’s Far East inspiration came out most vividly in his use of color (often dark punctuated by red), obi-like belts, kimono silhouettes, and prints that includes parasol, rose, and cherry blossom versions. That’s not to say that the collection was wholly traditional. In fact, the finale evening dresses were anything but and included a futuristic palette of bright orange pops, crystal fringing, stiff shapes, patent leather, and trompe l’oeil sheer touches.

The most noteworthy part of Armani’s Haute Couture collection this season, however, is perhaps that the Japan inspiration sprung out as a result of the recent tragic earthquake in Japan, which Armani has been supporting via a program that creates scholarships for impacted children through UNESCO.  He made a donation preceding his runway presentation.
