New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 Preview

As hard as it may be to believe, New York Fashion Week is just a few days away and news is trickling in on what we can expect. As John Jannuzzi wisely pointed out the other day via Twitter: “In two days everybody will be tweeting about how they’re so stressed with @nyfw instead of Irene. I can’t decide which is worse.” To turn some of that stress into excitement, here are just a few things we know about this coming Spring Fashion Week season:

Honor, Pink Tartan, Emerson, and J.Crew will all be part of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for the first time.

Mark Fast is showing his Faster line in New York instead of in London this season.

Alexander Wang is working with Sally Hansen on a line of nail polishes that will make its debut at his Spring 2012 show (this is Wang’s first foray into the realm of beauty).

Tory Burch, Timo Weiland, and Marchesa will all be opting out of presentations and instead staging runway shows for the first time.

Helmut Lang will stage a show for the first time since 2005.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Isaac Mizrahi, Catherine Malandrino, Vena Cava, and Max Azria have all canceled their runway shows.

Estee Lauder‘s Tom Pecheux will once again create the beauty look at Derek Lam.

Rumor has it that Tom Ford has opted to show his Spring 2012 collection not in New York, but in London this season.

Gwen Stefani will not be attending the L.A.M.B show this season as she’s busy working on the new No Doubt album.

Rumor has it that Kanye West may be showing a line during New York Fashion Week. There’s also a rumor that he’s working with Giuseppe Zanotti on a line of shoes.

September 9 will mark the opening of Richard Hambleton: A Retrospective, a survey of selected historical works from the painter. Presented in collaboration with Giorgio Armani, the exhibition will show at Phillips de Pury & Company (450 West 15th Street), marking the final installment of an international series curated by Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Andy Valmorbida in collaboration with Giorgio Armani.
