It’s easy to look at most anything that the likes of J. Mendel and Marchesa show and want it, but it certainly adds more fun to the mix when you’re looking at a collection like this season’s BCBG Max Azria and want most of it and know that it won’t leave your wallet completely empty by the end. That approachable nature certainly translated into the beauty looks this season as well. Models, which included Karolina Waz, who opened, Valerija Kelava, Brenda Kranz, and Arizona Muse, walked out with slicked back hair, a clean face, and nude lips – the perfect backdrop for the bold combinations and graphic looks that made their way down the runway.
While the show featured the class fluid silhouettes that we’ve come to expect from the brand, a number of them were considerably more intricate than the typical BCBG. Cut-outs, layering, and delicate pleating alongside powerfully bold color-blocked hues made for surprisingly original looks.
Yes, if Azria has his way, color-blocking is not going anywhere, but the designer used the blocked colors in fresh, geometric ways that used movement, thanks to expert draping, to bring life to the spot-on color combinations. For example, one particularly memorable look, featured oversized yellow pockets against a gray, white, blue, green, and black blocked background; it was hard to know how many pieces were involved in the look and where one piece of fabric started and the other ended, but the intricacy worked – no easy feat given the amount of clashing colors; so, here’s to hoping color-blocking doesn’t go anywhere! Speaking of not going anywhere, Sophia Bush, the not-that-famous-but-somehow-a-front-row-regular, was seated front row.
As for Azria, he showed spirited excitement when taking his bow in a Fashion’s Night Out shirt.
