Rubin&Chapelle Pre-Fall 2012

Designer label Rubin&Chapelle presented their Pre-Fall 2012 collection “Mobility and Restriction” in the Meatpacking District of New York City yesterday, showcasing their latest fashions. The entire collection was consumed by eveningwear, incorporated boning, circular draping, pleating, and other unique sewing techniques into flowy silhouettes. Consisting of mainly ethereal dresses, the collection focused on silks and billowing dresses, which cascaded across the floor in the industrial space. The floor length dresses were accented with sun pleating, curled edges, and chiffon layers.

Sonja Rubin and Kip Chapelle‘s color schemes were mainly that of neutrals: blacks, creams, blushes, and muted reds. The set up was very organic in a raw space, with a single live model floating amdist a sea of dress-adorned mannequins. Large photographs of past seasons were featured on the white walls and a long glass fixture divided the room, giving almost a waterfall illusion. Opposing walls were finished in brick and the atmosphere was set up to look somewhat like an impromptu photo shoot. The simple aesthetic created an atmosphere perfect for focusing on the collection.

The pieces were very modern, yet took you back to the 70s a bit. The plunging necklines were classic and expected of Rubin&Chapelle whose celebrity clients include Scarlett Johansson, Jude Law, Sienna Miller, Halle Berry, Cameron Diaz, and Sarah Jessica Parker. A nice unexpected twist was the use of slits to expose colored layers on some of the dresses.

Special Thanks to Daniella Scheele and the entire Rubin&Chapelle team.
