Fashion Week Australia S/S 2012-2013: Day Two Recap

In Zimmermann’s wake was Maticevski, one of the most anticipated shows on the calendar. Maticevski seemed to continue yesterday’s tendency to tone down the drama, but that doesn’t mean the clothing wasn’t super crafty. Evening dresses mixed heavy structured fabrics and geometric silhouettes with delicate chiffon, and if using a whole can of hairspray on one beehive isn’t glam, we don’t know what is.

And if Maticevski had fans excited, Michael Lo Sordo had them rabid. His show at Potts Point restaurant, The Apollo, actually had people pressing their flawlessly powdered faces up against the glass, because only VVVIP people like Susie Lau and Candice Lake were given front row seats. Though even those regulated to the back didn’t have trouble noticing this rising cool kid’s prodigious grasp of tailoring, which this time manifested itself in striking details like sheer paneling, metallic edges and foxy little dresses.

After Song for the Mute showed a sharp collection of dapper menswear to soothe the dazzled eyeballs of those witness to Lo Sordo, Magdalena Velevska put on an equally brilliant show set against the stunning Sydney harbour. Inspired by glittering stingrays, Velevska’s phosphorescent collection incorporated intricate embellishment and bold neons, presented on a silhouette more fluid than in seasons past.
