Kate Middleton Wore Alexander McQueen and More Fashion Moments from The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

With such an array of events having taken place, where should we begin fashion-wise? Let’s take a closer look at the Royal Family and some British celebrities’ fashion choices at the official events.

Sunday’s Flotilla

The Jubilee celebrations officially kicked off on Sunday afternoon with a spectacular flotilla upon the River Thames. The once-in-a-lifetime event saw over a thousand boats participating in the Diamond Jubilee pageant, which is the largest that has ever taken place in the UK. The Queen, along with her husband Prince Phillip, and what is being described as the future face of the Royal Family, Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall, led the parade upon an awe-inspiring majestic royal barge. Surprise performances not only took place along the riverbanks to entertain the Queen as she sailed downstream, but also later as the Royals docked up to watch and wave with thanks to the passing boats. The typical rainy British weather didn’t fail either, as the heavens opened, everybody got totally soaked, but that didn’t dampen our patriotic spirits. The memories of the choir performing upon an open air boat in the pouring rain for the Queen will go down in history.

Kate opted for a regal red Alexander McQueen red dress for the occasion, whereas the Queen shone like a diamond in her custom-made pearl attire.

Monday’s Jubilee Concert

A special stage was erected outside of Buckingham Palace in order to host a celebratory star-studded concert for the Queen. As you may already have heard, the Queen’s husband had taken ill earlier in the day and was unable to attend any more of the official events, but despite this, the Queen put on a brave face and persevered with her duties.

The concert featured an army of superstar performers from Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, and Elton John, which not only took place on the freshly built stage, but also on the roof and balconies of Buckingham Palace itself. Performances also featured style icons such as Kylie Minogue, whose outfit was inspired by the traditional cockney pearly man, whilst Jessi J dazzled in an Aztec patterned dress accessorized with patriotic Union Jack painted nails, and Cheryl Cole got it totally wrong in a floor sweeping wet look dress and caked on eye makeup.

The concert was drawn to a close by a breathtaking light and firework display.

Tuesday’s Balcony Wave

After partying the night away the evening before with a private family and performer barbeque after the Jubilee concert, all of the Royals still managed to get up bright and early to attend a thanksgiving Jubilee service at St Paul’s Cathedral. Kate chose to wear Alexander McQueen once more, this time in the form of a delicate lace dress, and she topped off the look with a Jane Taylor hat.

As the day progressed, the Royals led a horse drawn carriage procession back towards Buckingham Palace, and later, security opened up the mall to allow what could only be described as a sea of people to race towards the palace gates to catch a glimpse of the Royal balcony appearance. Although this scene alone was breathtaking enough, the icing on the cake came as the RAF’s fly over painted the Union Jack in the skies.

The events, the outfits, and most importantly, the electric atmosphere within London this weekend will make the Jubilee weekend one that we’ll never forget.
