Valentino Haute Couture Fall 2012: Religious Undertones Pervade the Evening-Focused Collection

There seemed to be religious undertones in many of the stark, architecturally cut Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli designed looks this season, a feeling that was heightened given the mostly dark color palette and modest silhouettes. This was particularly evident in the floor sweeping capes and streamlined floor-length dresses.

Tying into the long silhouettes, this season's show was decidedly evening focused with little, if any, looks that would be daytime appropriate. The most memorable pieces played with sheer fabrics for a peek-a-boo look, some of which also boasted elaborate beading.
