Chanel Spring 2013 Runway Review

The major story this season was volume with the house’s signature skirt suits cut to be more voluminous. Among the standouts were ones covered in giant pearls, ones finished with contrasting hems, and those finished with peter pan collars. Multicolored tweeds, quilted separates, and floral embroidered dresses also stood out as particularly successful in the covetable lineup. Layered sheer looks finished with leaf applique at the hems and sleeves as well as the denim looks were less appealing but helped liven up the marathon collection. From tweeds to denim to floral embroidery, perhaps it wasn’t all cohesive, but Chanel needs to appeal to a very wide demographic and in that regard it more than succeeded.

As for accessories, in a nod to Lagerfeld’s pure genius, he showed two of the most insanely awesome options: a hula hoop bag and a Lego block clutch — sheer runway (and uber-wealthy Chanel collector) perfection.
