Including a special limited edition line of 17 coats.

I come from a family of women obsessed with Max Mara coats and year after year the brand does not disappoint. You can literally make an outfit out of any one of their carefully constructed outwear pieces which can last well beyond any one woman’s years.

Fittingly, this week, Max Mara launched Atelier - a special limited edition line of 17 coats.

The focus for the Fall/Winter 2009 Max Mara collection was unsurprisingly on timeless colors (caramel brown, camel – Max Mara signatures – gray, beige, red, and black), and of course all eyes were on the outerwear pieces which were done most notably in cashmere, alpaca, and camel hair.

There were basic double-breasted coats, trenches, blazers, double-faced reversible shearlings, flowing silhouettes along with more tailored ones and belted jackets with short kimono-like sleeves. In each and every case, however, the clothes were used as a complement to the jackets and coats, keeping the focus on what the house does best.

Tibi Knotted-Waist Crepe Top, $275

A tangerine striped top not only incorporates the season's hottest color, but the tie-front silhouette works perfectly with maxi skirts and high waist pants.
