A true islander feel

For their Resort 2010 collection, Proenza Schouler went for an islander feel with a slew of aquatic colors, modified scoop neck sweaters, and a scuba-wear inspired fitted tank top worn with contrasting loose gray tweed trousers.  Striped and printed sweaters were worn with swim trunks turned into city shorts, with tweed drawstrings in a chocolate brown fabric with a subtle shine.

The design duo of Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough explored popular shapes from the spring season, such as loose-fitting blazers and trousers shown in preppy cream and navy blue.

Another memorable look, perfect for the office or strolling around town, was a faded blue drop waist mini-dress, paired with an easy-going blue and white tie-dye tee.

More mini-dresses followed, and a similar look to the blue dress was a cap sleeve white dress, with lightweight layers of fabric towards the bottom.  Navy was used throughout each look, such as a carefully cut and layered vest, and necklaces made from natural-looking materials.

More navy trousers followed, modified into a pleated cropped short, similar to a school uniform style.  The vest worn with the white mini dress was switched up in white with a navy layer underneath, a simple light gray tank, and navy pants.

Hernandez and McCollough also showcased more fitted designs, such as a black leather halter-top, with cutouts just before the neck.  The halter was tucked into an effortlessly pleated white pencil skirt, and cinched up with a faded gold belt.

The prints featured the same color palette mixed into floral prints, and a larger faded blue and white fabric.  The small flower print was crafted into a straightforward circle-style skirt, with another fabulous scuba-style tank in black and yellow.  Two similar mini-dresses in the same print followed, also worn with the phenomenal clustered necklaces.

The last few looks of the collection were fashioned out of the larger and aged floral print, with a few more feminine touches added.  The design duo took a note from spring collections, continuing the trend of ease and femininity with adorable ruffles.  Whether it was through a tucked in flowing top, or a jumpsuit, the fabulous floral print worked.

The last three looks included two ornate jackets, one cropped and one slightly longer, in a floral fabric with a silver shine added to it.  The designers used the same fabric differently, creating a tunic with a jeweled neck-piece, paired with a contrasting striped skirt.  The stripes proved popular, and they paired each of the three looks with a thickly striped orange and blue tee.

The accessories for the collection were incredible, including the signature PS1 bag in new fabrics, along with raffia added to their sandals which proved why the label won the CFDA Award this past week for Accessories Designer of the Year.
