Bird, cat, and naked lady silhouette prints...

Hard as I may try, I’ve never been able to pull off any of Miuccia Prada’s designs for Miu Miu. The brand’s bags and shoes are versatile, easily wearable, and durable, but their clothing is another story. It’s hard to swallow because I’m more of a Miu Miu fan than a Prada one when it comes to seeing the looks on a model or on a rack.  But, for example, take the slew of dark pantsuits, jumpers and separates that opened the show - with head-to-toe bird, cat, and naked lady silhouette prints on them.  For the life of me, I cannot imagine myself wearing them on the street, even if Prada made them look fabulously chic.

Prada must be feeling confident about the patterns, however, because they made recurring appearances on almost every look in her Spring/Summer 2010 show. When kept minimal - as was the case with the bird print on a navy cardigan, or on another look that featured a dress with a navy shoulder detail – the looks worked; they were classic, quirky Miu Miu. The full-on looks, especially those that had cut-outs and underwear as outerwear-like shapes, didn’t fare so well, especially when combined with long labels, cinched waist, and boxy cuts that made some of the looks almost look like flight attendant uniforms.

However, Prada redeemed herself later in the show when the embroidered pieces, which the designer always masterfully creates for her Prada collection, appeared.
