Claudia Schiffer turns designer, Jil Sander and Jason Wu take on new projects

German-born, London-based supermodel Claudia Schiffer will soon be adding designer to her long list of fashion credentials.

Schiffer told the IHT's Techno Luxury conference in Berlin that while she has yet to sign a contract, she is in the process of taking the steps to create her own line – “I've been in this business for so long and developed my name globally, but I have no product to show for it. And I would love to develop it now. I have no definite first product in mind, but I would love to do cashmere. It's something I wear all the time myself, but I'd love to do something a bit more price-friendly. Plus a lot of cashmere lines are very classic and timeless, while I'd want to do it a bit more fashion. Or I could imagine doing handbags.”

Sometimes I wonder at what point these celebrity-designed fashion lines become insulting to actual designers.

As for more seasoned design vets, Jil Sander will be reprising her role as the designer for a limited edition Uniqlo collection (her first one hit stores on October 1st) which is slated for the spring.

Jason Wu has just re-launched www.thewstudio.com. When discussing the launch, the designer remarked that he feels the site is like a “modern-age scrapbook,” and that he thought that given how much his business has grown in the last few years, the site “needed to be more in-depth, more interactive, and more fun.”

The site boasts a blog, exclusive behind-the-scenes videos that highlight Wu’s recent collaboration with Alex de Betak on Spring 2010 collection, and a backstage gallery from photographer Greg Kessler.
