Ill-fated collaborations continue...

There are so many awful collaborations going on right now it’s hard to keep track! The most glaring one, Levi’s x House of Holland, is launching for the Spring/Summer 2010 season and is the result of Henry Holland’s ill-fated attempt at working with Levi’s jeans for both men and women’s wear. Seriously, who is going to wear golden buckles and denim straps? Or perhaps a better question is, who would look good wearing such garments?

I don’t see one redeeming garment in the 8-piece washed denim collection, which hits stores across Europe in February.  I have a hard time imagining that many people will buy into these looks - however, there’s no accounting for people’s taste, and I’m always open to seeing someone pulling off a look I didn’t think possible…so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Another designer taking a stab at rugged wear is Jeremy Scott, who has once again teamed with Adidas for a Jeremy Scott for Adidas Originals Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The designer says that he was inspired by rock and pop culture, and the results include plenty of rhinestones and Michel Jackson-esque fringe. Again, the results are pretty clownish when it comes to both the apparel and the footwear, but given that Jeremy Scott is repeatedly being asked back to collaborate, these kooky wears must sell well (I do have to say that I did like a stuffed animal-inspired hoodie he designed for Adidas in the past…).
