Highlighting the silhouette of a woman...

The bread and butter of Bottega Veneta are their supple, luxuriously soft handbags, but the brand also has much to offer in the way of apparel, shoes, and even jewelry. Bottega Veneta’s reputation for pure sophistication was on full display at their Fall/Winter 2010 collection which was centered on line and movement. A color palette that included ink blue, chocolate, bottle green, carbon gray, and black was complemented by touches of iridescent metallics, and most of the looks were kept monochromatic, letting the craftsmanship be the center of attention.

The silhouette was an envelope, narrow and long, structured at the top and fluid at the bottom. The materials used for the more fluid looks included washed silk twill, Japanese triacetate cady, crinkled chiffon, silk chiffon, silk crepe, and silk-and-cashmere jersey, while compact wool, cashmere, brocade, double-knit wool, and shearling were used for the more structured silhouettes.   In a press release, the brand’s creative director, Tomas Maier, remarked that “the silhouette is the focus of the collection. It starts powerfully, with a structured shoulder, then becomes gentler and more fluid on the bottom. Only when a woman moves do you see the line of body, the completion of the silhouette.”  

As for the handbags, they ranged from large, sporty hunting bags to small evening purses. Shoes were made in two styles – some of suede and satin, others in metallic and iridescent leathers. Jewelry was made from antique sterling silver, colored enamel, and sweet water pearls.
