Betting On Galliano’s Replacement at Dior

With the recent announcement that John Galliano‘s successor at Dior won’t be named until Fall, it gives us plenty of time to speculate about who will take over his position. Rumors have been flying that Riccardo Tisci is a shoo-in, but there is more than one contender we would love to see take the reins at the iconic house. See below for our top 3 picks, and what would make them the perfect choice for Dior.

Riccardo Tisci: The Front-runner

Strengths: He has designed incredible clothes for Givenchy, and has seriously raised the brand’s profile.

Why he would be great: Tisci’s designs are beautiful, innovative, and intricately designed. He has also re-branded the house, allowing us to almost forget its Audrey Hepburn origins. Dior could use a new identity, one far from Galliano’s.

Probability of landing the job: 8.5/10

Alber Elbaz: The Contender

Current position: Designer at Lanvin.

Strengths: Impeccable tailoring and draping skills, coupled with an incredible ability to know exactly what women want.

Why he would be great: He delivers to all of his designs a certain elegance, whimsy, and the innate knowledge of what is needed to make a woman look her best. His focus on impeccable tailoring and draping, combined with his French background, would fit in well with the history of Dior

Probability of landing the job: 6/10

Haider Ackermann: The Dark Horse

Strengths: Karl Lagerfeld suggested he take over Chanel when he leaves.

Why he would be great: After starting his own label in 2010, Ackermann has received plenty of acclaim for his designs, which focus on avant garde draping and a love of leather. His use of fabric, texture, and play on traditional design is what makes him an interesting candidate. Dior could be taken in a completely different direction under his watch.

Probability of landing the job: 4/10
