MARCHESA TACKLES ACCESSORIES

Founded in 2004 by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, high-end fashion label Marchesa has quickly become, along with its diffusion line Notte by Marchesa, a red carpet staple.  This means it’s high time that the English duo launch an accessories collection to complement their elaborate frocks.

Debuting at their spring presentation, which will be held on September 16th at The Chelsea Art Museum in New York during New York Fashion Week, the Marchesa accessories line will consist of 28 clutches and evening cases. Unsurprisingly, the pieces go hand in hand with their fashion design aesthetic. The pieces are glitzy, detailed, overtly feminine, and look like they are meant to be worn to black tie events.

In fact, a number of the clutches tie directly into their garments and will coordinate with their spring collection. One piece in particular, a draped box clutch with swathes of silk, is meant to echo Marchesa’s rosette (which is a recurring motif in the line’s cocktail dresses). That said, the rosette clutch does bring to mind one of Valentino’s signature bag styles. Besides the rosette, there is a beaded and embroidered silver clutch and a number of exotic skin pieces (alligator, crocodile, lizard).

Those with an affinity for bold accessories, will probably love the fact that every bag boasts a hand-cut rock crystal. Prices are expected to be between $995 and $5,000 and every bag has room for, at the very least, a BlackBerry, cosmetics, and keys.
