STELLA MCCARTNEY PARIS F/W 2010

This season, McCartney once again hit it out of the park with sophisticated, utterly wearable day and cocktail-wear. Among the standout looks was a nude and black striped sweater that was casually paired with slender black pants tapered at the ankle, and pointed black heels. McCartney has a knack for taking something as overplayed as stripes and making them chic, by sheer precision in placement and choice of material. As Archs’ use of polka dots in her Fall/Winter 2010 collection for Emanuel Ungaro goes to show, even simple motifs can turn disastrous when in the wrong hands.

The fits, the delicate fabric choices, the breezy styling, and use of color (a mix of black, white, and McCartney’s usual neutral tones were mixed with shots of bold reds, oranges, and sequins), were spot on.  Although some may fault McCartney for being boring at times, she’s not looking to entertain as much as she is looking to give woman key closet looks that are classic enough to be worn for years. However, I do miss some of the cheekiness that McCartney had shown with her work at Chloe, and even in some past collections for her namesake brand. Hopefully, just for fun, she’ll throw in something more provocative next season.
