tFS chats with LA-based model Natalie Suarez, the blogger behind ‘Natalie Off Duty,’ about her favorite blogs, dream career, and sources of inspiration.
The Fashion Spot: How did you get interested in fashion?
Natalie Suarez: I became really interested in fashion during high school when I picked up my first issues of magazines like Teen Vogue and Nylon. I loved flipping through the editorials and admiring the beautiful photography and styling.
That’s when I knew I wanted to model. Over time, I ended up developing my own personal style and have grown to be a lot more comfortable in my own skin.
tFS: When did you first start your blog?
NS: I started my blog about a year ago. I cannot believe it has already been a year!
tFS: Who takes your pictures?
NS: My sister, Dylana takes my photos. She is a fashion writer, has a blog called "Nana in Wonderland" and is a fantastic photographer. She is really a natural talent, and I’m lucky to have her take beautiful shots of me.
tFS: What fashion sites and blogs do you read daily?
NS: I love to read Studded Hearts, Song of Style, Mode d’ Amour, Knightcatt, Phosphene, and of course Nana in Wonderland. These sites are so inspirational. There are constant updates on the latest editorial photographs and street style. It’s sort of addicting and I check up on them whenever I can.
tFS: Favorite time of year for fashion?
NS: I really love Fall and Spring, when the weather is nice and cool, and you can wear soft, light layers.
tFS: Fantasy dinner companion(s)?
NS: Hmmm, I love Shia Labeouf. I’ve always had this little celebrity crush on him! This is a bit embarrassing, but it is true. I’d love to go to dinner with him.
tFS: What do you hang on your walls?
NS: I have a board on my wall with really gorgeous editorial photographs ripped out of the pages of magazines. I usually switch up the photos each season for inspiration.
tFS: Do you pay a lot of attention to reader feedback?
NS: I love my reader feedback. I’ve been getting a lot of postive feedback, so yes, I enjoy reading what followers write to me. I try my best to get back to them, as well.
tFS: Who are your favorite labels and designers?
NS: I love Alexander Wang, Dries Van Noten, and a lot of vintage. I try not to just wear labels. If anything is unique and looks good on my body type, then I will wear it.
tFS: What do you want to be doing in five years? How do you plan to do it?
NS: That’s a hard one to answer. In 5 years, I’d love to still have a modeling career. Also, it would be lovely to have a music career, since I’ve been singing my entire life. That would be a dream job for me. I’d love to be able to express myself through music as well as photography.
