The era of the 1950’s is making a splash in the fashion world, which may be designers’ response to the TV series Mad Men, a hugely successful show that has also been a stylistically pleasing hit.
Pencils skirts and corset dresses with circle skirts were all the rage on the Fall 2010 runways, showing off a woman’s highly enhanced curves.
The impeccable tailoring, vintage styling with ladylike accessories, and perfectly coiffed hairdos are a huge opposition to the previous season's messy, goth trend.
It looks like Miss Pretty and Perfect is all grown up now, cleaning up her act.
A silky pencil skirt, modest blouse and matching gloves show off this ladylike look by Nina Ricci in modern metallics (left). Plaid, tweed and full skirt perfection…Prada is hopping on this 50’s trend with a vengeance. The entire collection was based around full skirts, complimented by oversized buns without a single hair misplaced (right).
Dolce and Gabbana know how to highlight a woman’s curves in all the right places, and do so this season with lace and leopard. A sexy full skirt and corset top are for the lady with a bad girl appetite (left). Louis Vuitton showcases a subtle, sexy stunner in this 50’s style, lace dress with a daringly low, square neckline (right).
Upscale and poised, but without all the extra fuss, this time around the 50’s looks like something a woman with a daring fashion sense could get on board with. With both properly covered and over-exposed looks to choose from, there will be plenty of options.
