Fall 2011 Trend: Hats

Thierry Mugler; Moschino

Hats are to Fall as florals are to Spring, but that said, they aren’t always featured prominently on the runway.

Issa; Meadham Kirchhoff

Fall 2011, however, marked an ardent comeback for the head toppers, which foreshadowed the onslaught of interest in hats brought on by the royal wedding.

Gucci; Burberry

What’s fantastic about this trend is that it’s extremely versatile. One can opt to go for something fluid and artistic like the hats we saw at Issa; one can go military-inspired like at Moschino; one can go dramatic like we saw at Gucci — the possibilities are endless.

And, lest we forget, there’s always the option of opting for a fur hat or one that covers your ears to be both fashionable and practical whilst out and about in the cold. Here are some options to cover multiple bases.

Etro Embroidered Rabbit Felt Hat, $360;  5. Lanvin Felt Hat, $780;  6. Acne Look Leather Hat, $379;  7. Burberry Prorsum Mink Hat, $1,595
