Rogue en Vogue, a Fall Fashion Wishlist: Closed Set with Julie Bensman

Because the fashion set was aflutter with visions of Spring 2012 last week, I’m going to go rogue and remind us all that it is, like it or not, actually fall outside. And speaking of which, a shoot I produced for the season’s last Hamptons issue popped up on Fashion Gone Rogue this week.

Shot by Rony Shram and styled in house by Senior Fashion Editor Amanda Weiner, this shoot was, quite literally, shot guerilla-style on Shelter Island: imagine an entire crew squeezed into an SUV (with me crouched in the trunk); roadside model changes behind blankets; and wading through weeds to get to our perfect destination. Who said the fashion industry was glamorous?

With this shoot as my inspiration, I’m making a wish list of some of my favorite fall pieces to purchase: set against a backdrop of tall trees, marshy weeds, and the ability to travel anywhere, natch.

Cole Haan Brooke Emma Crossbody Bag

On any given day, one can find me racing from the subway with my Blackberry in one hand, a coffee in the other, magazine tucked under my arm and sweater slung over my shoulder. This state of living most definitely requires a messenger bag, the perfect fall staple to keep my hands free and life (somewhat) organized. Cole Haan is always the perfect fit.

Thread Social Colorblocked Shirtdress

Little known fact about yours truly: I’ve modeled for Thread Social on two occasions and while I’ve long been a fan of the brand, I’ve become an even bigger fan of designer Melissa Akey (who started the line with Beth Blake). The duo has done it again this season with a classic frock reinterpreted and just a touch of romanticism thrown in for good measure.

Mallory May Acorn Pebble necklace

Any designer obsessed with the Museum of Natural History as a kid MUST be my style soul mate. Mallory May’s aesthetic is simple and organic – and with a gunmetal finish, this acorn pebble necklace gets just the right amount of edgy upgrade.

Del Toro Green Velvet Slippers

If I could live in one shoe for the rest of my life, this would be it. So luxe, with the ability to be dressed up or down – trust me on this one.

Gryphon Combo Sherlock Cape

My heart longs for this like it has never longed for a piece before. Just when you think you’ve found THE cape (rich felt, flattering length, perfect amount of detail without looking over-styled), you swoosh around to reveal the metallic storm flap. Swoon.

Xoxo,

Julie
