It's entirely possible that you were under the age of 10 the last time you wore a bow. You're a grown-up now and maybe you think little girl accents don't befit the chic woman you've become. But wait: bows were a huge trend for Spring 2012!
"Not for me!" You say. We beg to differ.
The bows seen on the catwalks of the most high end, avant-garde, and well-loved designers in the world didn't call to mind tea parties and Easter Sunday dresses outfitted with crinoline and white patent shoes. Oh no. They were undeniably chic.
From fifties-like scarf tying to waist-emphasizing, bows were worn in a way which was all grown-up. If you're still hesitant, try adding a pretty bow to your favorite studded accessory and see if you don't look every bit the fashionista, able to mix tough and femme with the best of them. Need inspiration? That's what we're here for! Check out this awesome slideshow that gives you an inside look at what the designers did and an extra super-simple DIY idea that will have your girlfriends asking themselves why they didn't think of it first.
To Cape Or Not To Cape: Miu Miu
If you watch fashion as closely as we do, you will have noticed that capes are all over the place, not just for Fall and Winter, but for Spring too. These pretty Miu Miu versions are tied with a chic bow at the front, reminding us that looking covered up and innocent brings its own brand of sexy. Try full length...
Capelet: Miu Miu
...Or a mini cape.
Waist Emphasis: Valentino
A bow around the waist is an excellent, ultra-feminine way to accessorize skirts, fit-and-flare dresses, maxis, high-waisted shorts and even knee-length coats. Take a cue from Valentino and make sure the bow is in a matching color and/or fabric for subtle elegance.
Head Gear: Viktor & Rolf
Viktor & Rolf are known for their avant garde designs. Some are so out there they're clearly meant for runway and editorial rather than street fashion. However, they tied a pretty bow underneath a fifties-inspired headscarf look complete with big, black sunglasses. It's a look for any chic-minded woman to try.
Head Scarf: Victor & Rolf
They also use a bow to tie a makeshift headband on one model's crown. We love it.
Bag Bow: Valentino
This Valentino bag gives homage to the bow by placing a slender, elegant version front and center on this pink clutch. We wonder how chic it would look with a beaten-up black leather jacket.
For Your Feet: Repetto
You may not even realize it, looking at all of these examples of high-end chic bows, but it's likely you've got two bows sitting in your closet. A pair of classic ballet flats adorned with tiny bows is the perfect way to wear this trend.
You've seen women tying silk scarves to the handles of their day bags or suitcases, even their wrists. Start a new trend by tying a bow, any size you like, made of satin ribbon. Make it a hot accent color like hot pink, yellow or orange. Use your wrist, handbag strap, ankles and neck for display.
