This season brought with it a slew of wearable trends including velvet dresses, houndstooth separates and fur handbags. Check out these and more in our recap of the top trends we'll be seeing next fall.
Quilting
Everything from outerwear to cocktail dresses was quilted this seasons at shows including Rebecca Minkoff, DKNY, Catherine Malandrino Black Label and Rag & Bone.
Peplum
It appears that peplums are here to stay given that they were seen in what felt like every show. See Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Richard Chai and Alexander Herchcovitch.
Tassels
The 70s are back, but with restraint. Designers, including Diane von Furstenberg and Chado Ralph Rucci, worked in tasteful references including tassels.
Velvet
Velvet can easily make a look appear dated, but this season many designers, including Zac Posen, J. Mendel, Chado Ralph Rucci and Tadashi Shoji, offered up modern options.
Leopard
Like peplum, it appears that leopard is here to stay thanks to collections from DKNY, Elie Tahari, Peter Som, Herve Leger by Max Azria and J. Crew, among others.
Leather
Leather everything was seen this season, taking the material well beyond a stiff biker look. Supple leather pieces were shown on runways including those of Carmen Marc Valvo, BCBGMaxAzria, Altuzarra, Rachel Zoe and 3.1 Phillip Lim.
Fur Handbags
PETA beware: designers, including Donna Karan, Herve Leger by Max Azria and J. Mendel, let fur creep into their accessories this season.
Darks and Neutrals
Most fall/winter seasons have at least a few collections that are brightly hued, but nearly every major show in the Fall 2013 lineup was focused on dark hues and neutrals. See Alexander Wang, The Row and Calvin Klein.
Houndstooth
Houndstooth was the print of the season, appearing on countless major runways including Tommy Hilfiger, Thom Browne, Rebecca Minkoff, Rag & Bone and J. Crew.
Beanies
From Donna Karan to BCBG Max Azria, designers will be keeping our ears cozy with beanies come Fall 2013.
