DINING BY DESIGN NATIONAL TOUR

The Design Industries Foundation for Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) launched the 2009 Dinning by Design tour with 5-days of events that ran concurrently with the Architectural Digest Home Design Show at Pier 94 in New York City.

The event brought together some of the most talented and celebrated individuals in the worlds of fashion, interior design, art, and architecture, creating spectacular, over-the-top dining environments that helped raise over $750,000.

Participating design schools included FIT with mentor David Beahm, the New York School of Interior Design with mentors Rick Shaver and Lee Melahn of Shaver/Melahn, NYU with mentor Miles Redd, Parsons with mentor Vicente Wolfe and SVA with mentor Robert Verdi. Each design mentor guided their student team through the creative process from conception to execution, working within a strict budget. The goal of the Student Design Initiative is to give the next generation of great designers the rare opportunity to work with some of the best design veterans in the business and participate in one of the industry’s keynote events.

Following Dining by Design New York, the installations will travel across the country to various cities including Kansas City, Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago and Columbus.
