GOING GREEN

With Earth Day coming up on April 22nd, there have been a lot of wonderful green projects this month. Now, in tandem with the release of the PPR-sponsored film “Home” that is designed to raise environmental consciousness, Yves Saint Laurent has created a limited-edition collection of T-shirts, tank tops, and tote bags in exclusive prints on organic cotton.

The line will be sold exclusively in select Yves Saint Laurent boutiques beginning in early June to coincide with the June 5th worldwide release of the “Home” film.

Besides this line, other Gucci Group and PPR brands are also working on special products and events linked to the eco film.

In other eco news, New York based jewelry designer Melissa Joy Manning has been a certified “B” corporation for the past 11 years.  This certification is through B Lab, a nonprofit organization that encourages businesses to solve social and environmental problems.  Manning uses recycled gold and natural materials in her jewelry.

Manning, who is headquartered in Soho, tells WWD that this is about how we can all have a positive effect on the environment and still be fashionable. The designer has expanded her business into a sales showroom where she represents a number of environmentally conscious jewelers, including Luana Coonen and Lauren Wolf.
