HAIRSTYLE TIPS FROM THE PROS

Here, Gretta Monahan, co-host of “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style,” and celebrity stylist Sally Hershberger, who has worked with the likes of Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss and Michelle Pfeiffer, to name a few, offer their advice on minimizing hair damage, preventing bad hair days, and sassy styling tips.

Catch the perfect wave

If you’ve always lusted after loose, beachy waves, Sally has a fail-proof three-step system. First, shampoo hair with a product that provides moisture and supports curls, then use water-based foam to enhance and promote a natural wave. If you can, try and let your hair air dry. But if time is of the essence, use your diffuser attachment on your blow dryer to dry your hair. That’s it! You can end at that step or finish with a moisturizing texture spray if preferred.

Don’t overdo it

When it comes to your hair brushes, be careful not to overuse them. When brushes get old the bristles can break and can pull and break the hair follicle. Gretta suggests investing in a boar bristle brush at your local beauty supply to prevent the bristles from breaking the hair.

Having a bad hair day?

Sally gave us three easy steps to go from bad to fab. Since most women have layers, she suggests using a texturizing product that helps infuse volume. Spray through dried hair, blow dry and use your hands to create that messy, sexy tousled look. It’s simple, quick, and sure to provide a look anyone would lust after.

Give yourself a trim

If you’re in a bind and can’t make it in to see your hairstylist, you may be able to trim your bangs yourself. Start by twisting them down, pull them straight from your brow and just snip the ends. Sally says this is a quick and easy way to a do-it-yourself bang trim.
