LFW: LOUISE GRAY S/S 2010

The UK’s eccentricity levels shifted up a notch after Louise Gray’s newest collection became the topic of interest for fashion week goers this season. The collection marks her second season of New Generation sponsorship with a cosmopolitan collection fit for the fashion forward London girl.

Models (one of whom introduced herself to me as a tFS member) wore punky spray-painted jumpers, and jumpers adorned with slogans the tangerine-haired designer utters herself (“BABE”, “I DIE”). Cut outs of squares or love hearts reveal detailing beneath simple tops, and the classic simplicity of a strapless summer dress is shaken up with a powerful zig-zag stripe. Contrasting colour trims on simple chiffon tops and dresses showcase Louise’s incredible eye for detail, no matter how small.

The accessories featured in the presentation were created from trash bags by Judy Blame, who also customized the Nicholas Kirkwood heels featured. The interesting set design was by none other than acclaimed London artist, Tony Hornecker. Also on display was Louise’s 5-piece capsule collection for The Smiley Company, which features a bomber jacket, t-shirt, bustier, and leather skirt with the Smiley face logo, maintaining Louise Gray’s signature panache.

Colours pop and patterns clash, but it seems in Louise’s world, stamping out traditional fashion faux pas is high on her to do list, and every piece in her collection makes us want to enlist to join her revolution.
