PARIS: MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA S/S 2010

To say that Maison Martin Margiela fans are shocked is an understatement. The notoriously reclusive designer and pentagon-secure design house are not ones to shy away from smoke and mirrors collections, but this season the shock is not because viewers are in awe – it is that they are confused.

Speculation has been circulating for some time that the designer, whose name appears on the label, is no longer the one actually designing the collection. This season’s mish-mashed collection will only feed the rumor mill.

Everyone, from Style.com to our knowledgeable contributors to the Fashion Spot forums, has expressed concern and disdain for the collection shown yesterday in Paris.

Notwithstanding a few classic shapes and conceptual successes, this season’s showing was a sign that perhaps a change is needed in the design house, and quite frankly it should be soon.  Fashion folk can be fickle, and there are plenty of conceptual designers itching to step into the spot light as the next big avant-garde sucess.
