The Most Show-Stopping Accessories of Haute Couture Fall 2014

The phrase “head-to-toe” takes on a specifically strong meaning when referring to the couture collections. Vastly differing from the shows we are used to seeing in September and February for ready-to-wear, couture week offers the extravagant and ostentatious for a select few customers. And there’s no skimping sartorially on style when these show-stopping shoes, jewels, handbags and hats hit the runway.

Haute couture allows designers to be infinitely creative and bring to life a type of fashion fantasy normally not paraded throughout the year. Ornamentation decorated in every form, whether face masks chock-full of crystals at Maison Martin Margiela, gilded hair adornments at Ulyana Sergeenko or artistic, architecturally sculpted heels at Christian Dior. A showcase of the most outrageous and innovative looks rife with luxury, this isn’t the season to admire modesty.

From larger-than-life earrings to supersized necklaces, sumptuous furs, crowning headpieces and statement-making shoes, couture accessories run the gamut of glamour, but there was one accessory that seemed to dominate and serve as a must-have this fall — gloves. Worn with several looks in the Armani Privé show as well as at Dior, Chanel and Schiaparelli, this accessory is bound to turn up in every style star’s wardrobe.

While we wait for many of these trends to trickle down, we’ve culled the major haute couture accessories from this week’s shows.
