5 Ways to Master Instagram and Boost Your Brand, With Lisa Hyde

Of all the social media networks you need to have your head around in order to keep on top of your career in the fashion industry, Instagram reigns supreme!

If you’re just dipping your toes into the world of Insty snaps, or you’re looking for a way to get those follower numbers up, you’re in luck! Our resident industry wiz Lisa Hyde, is here to help you whip your ‘gram skills into shape.

As part of our series with AustralianSuper, helping you kick start your creative career, Lisa has five simple steps to help you become the king or queen of Instagram!

When I first signed up for Instagram, I must admit it was purely for fun, keeping up with friends I don’t see every day and sharing my silly photos. Nowadays I often have to remind myself of this, as being an influencer and working with many brands can sometimes get a little stressful.

I really do love creating content for brands and playing around with photography and filters, however when this creative outlet becomes a job, it also brings with it deadlines and associating pressures that weren’t there before.

I don’t believe there is any one rule to master Instagram, because everyone is different. However there are simple things every Instagrammer should know about when working with brands so it doesn’t become stressful and unenjoyable.

Get a good photo app.

If you don’t have a professional photographer, this will help with your edits and the overall look of your Instagram. I love VSCO, not only for the amazing filters but also because it lets you line up all your images so you see what they will look like before posting.

Find out what it is you want to share.

You usually gain a following because people like you and because you offer something unique. Find out what that is and roll with it. The closer the subject matter is to you as an individual, the more likely you’ll find success. Keep in mind what you’re passionate about and make THAT front and centre as you develop your brand.

Do what makes you happy and stick to your style.

Never compare your account with someone else’s. Trust me when I say constantly comparing your ‘gram to other, more established accounts is a slippery slope that won’t end well. As long as you’re happy with what you’re producing, at the end of the day, that’s the most important factor.

Be authentic.

The more organic your images are, the more people will be interested. Make sure you include a little of you in between any sponsored posts, as the last thing you want is for people to lose interest in what they were there for in the first place: YOU!

Create a separate business account.

This tip is incredible and saves me so much time logging in and out of my personal and business account. Instagram now allows you to ADD MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS! Go to settings, scroll down to add an account and log into your second account. Now you can easily go between profiles by simply clicking on your user name at the top!
