Here’s Exactly What to Wear Under All Your Sheer Things

Banish body shame. Embrace yourself as you are. Let it all hang out. Embark upon your day in one of the completely sheer ensembles that dominated the Spring 2018 runways. Of course, it being fall and all, you’re going to need some seriously substantial outerwear. And, per just about every designer that showed sheer clothing, you’re also going to need some exceedingly cute underpinnings.

At Miu Miu, striped, granny-esque knit knickers came paired with a coordinating color-blocked top and sheer, fluted-hem slip dress. At Jill Stuart, similarly cozy, capacious short shorts peered out from under a see-through floral-print duo. Per tradition, Maria Grazia Chiuri teamed her patented gauzy tulle skirts and dresses with glitzy, statement-making bustiers at Dior.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana sheathed their models in sultry eveningwear looks consisting of figure-hugging sheer midis layered over jet black balconette bras and navel-grazing briefs. No. 21 daringly doubled up on sheer clothing, sliding striped sequin slips over underwear that made up in area what it lacked in opacity.

All this to say, when taking the sheer clothing plunge, leave your ragged laundry day panties and skimpy thongs where they belong — deep in the bowels of your lingerie drawer. (Although, as demonstrated by Moncler Gamme Rouge, if your bra doubles as a crop top, your bikini-style briefs can stay.) Switch up your snoozy white briefs with luxe, figure-flattering underwear. (At least as long as the temperature hovers around 60. Once it dips further, dresses-over-pants and hoodies-under-dresses looks are fair game.)
