The Hadids and Kendall Jenner going tiny.

Kanye Isn’t the Only One Cosigning Tiny Sunglasses This Season

It has long been speculated that Kanye West acts as Kim Kardashian’s stylist. After all, he did just enlist an army of Kim clones to show off his latest Yeezy collection. While he may not go as far as picking out her day-to-day ensembles, he definitely alerts her to burgeoning trends. His latest epiphany? Tiny sunglasses are the way to go for 2018.

Kanye’s sartorial tidbit was revealed in a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians with Kim explaining to BFF Jonathan Cheban why she’s sporting sleeker shades. While Kanye could have gleaned his revelation from a variety of sources, his prediction had an immediate effect. Kanye’s sister-in-law Kendall Jenner embraced the movement, routinely rocking minuscule sunglasses since summer. Bella Hadid has been spotted wearing mini specs for practically every occasion (like a Christian Dior event and on the streets of Paris just two weeks ago). Her sister also hopped on board, flaunting super skinny shades several times.

Small sunglasses have been all over the runways.

Shades have actually been getting narrower on the runways for a few seasons now. Rochas showcased slimmed-down cat-eye sunglasses on its Fall 2016 runway. Only a handful of models wore the sleek accessory as part of layered looks topped off with bold coats. Balenciaga’s skinny shades were more rectangular for Fall 2017 and teamed with everything from oversized trenches to voluminous strapless dresses. Small sunglasses also showed up for Spring 2018. Prabal Gurung outfitted select members of his model crew in tinted, partially rimless versions.

If you’re thinking this trend can’t last, think again. Showgoers at the Spring 2018 Haute Couture shows blocked out the rays with tiny shades. Proving that you don’t need to wait for the weather to warm up to slip on your sunnies, the street style set paired theirs with scarves and beanies. But we’re betting spring will be the season it all trickles down to the general public. In anticipation, retailers are already beefing up their skinny stockpiles (with several styles selling out).
