A MANICURE-PHOBE LUSTS OVER RUFFIAN NAILS

You fully come to terms with the fact that you are a card carrying member of the Klutz Club (with special merit badges for wine glass breaking and tripping over furniture) when you cast yearning glances at a manicure from the Fall/Winter 2010 runways and realize that an attempt to emulate it could cause more misery and carnage than a night out with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

“Why not go to a professional?” you ask.  There are, after all, as many nail salons as Starbucks in my little part of the world.  The answer is simple.  For, in addition to being a klutz, I have a severe manicure phobia…and the thought of a stranger wielding cutting or buffing tools near my hands, or (heaven forbid) feet, gives me palpitations.

Which leaves me, sadly, right back where I was.  Lusting over the navy and gold digits from Ruffian’s runway, yet impotent to do anything about it.  At least, that’s what my practical inner voice is telling me.  The other little voice inside my head is suggesting buying some drop cloths, covering the furniture, and letting the varnish fly where it may.  After all, with some practice, I might be able to duplicate the look myself.
