FALL TREND: THE CAPE

The overcoat may be the traditional cold weather clothing item of choice, but sometimes a girl just doesn’t feel like wearing something classic, even though she needs to stay warm.   So what’s a fashion forward girl to do? Capes, ponchos and cool cover-ups were all over the Fall 2010 runways this season, providing a new option for staying stylishly protected in the turbulent, winter weather. Tailored and cropped, or oversized and dramatic, the cape is definitely the new outerwear look for next season.

A camel colored beauty by Alexander Wang with cutout shoulders, side slits, and an asymmetrical closing may not be the warmest option, but it could be the prettiest.

A fur adorned grey number by Marc Jacobs will keep you looking chic in snowy weather.

Temperly London is posh in a black and white geometric capelet and matching mini dress.

For the grown up Gossip Girl, Zac Posen designs a short, tailored capelet in grey wool with black piping trim.

Load of layers and tweed at Rag and Bone showed off a dressed up, wool cape with faux fur hat.

Go big and make a statement in a floor-length cashmere number, or look preppy and cute in a tailored cropped version. Your overcoat will be grateful for the break.
