Red was a major color trend seen on the runway for Fall 2010.
Several brands like Comme Des Garçons, Prada, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, and Wunderkind all used the color in different ways.
At Comme Des Garçons, Rei Kawakubo focused on the use of red through a lumberjack plaid print, which served as the fabric for several looks from her pillow-inspired collection.
Miuccia Prada used reds in a more toned down way, although it was a heavy motif in the collection. Hints of deep red and burgundy were seen in the cable knit pullover sweaters, felted wool skirts, and even belts and shoes.
The deep red tone worked perfectly with the womanly aesthetic of the collection, which gave the models a sense of strength without being too blatant.
Ricardo Tisci was inspired by the colors of the Bauhaus this season, focusing on red, black, and white. Red was not only used for strongly cut coats, pant suits, and skirts, but the color somehow made it into every piece of the collection, even as a beauty accent for the models. Even Tisci’s lace was done in a shockingly bright hue, making his version of red a main influence on the trends of the season.
On the final day of Paris Fashion Week at Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs’ take on red for a ladylike collection was similar to Miuccia Prada’s. Instead of a multifaceted dark red, Jacobs lightened up with a burgundy chambray for the structured corsets and flowing floor-length dresses. He used the same shade for a diagonal plaid fabric, crafted into a perfect full calf-length circle skirt.
Wolfgang Joop showed a much more tribal-inspired collection with plenty of red accents. The grey shawl that opened the show had a native-inspired cream fringe trim with an exceptionally bright red stripe along the edge. Later on, red blazers were shown, similar to the ones at Givenchy. Joop made red more of an accent rather than the main focus of the collection.
Red is a strong color, but you should not be afraid to wear it. It exudes passion, and makes you look fierce during the cold winter months. A red blazer or scarf is the perfect accent to your winter wardrobe that will make you stand out in the crowd.
