Stella McCartney Fall 2011 Runway Review

Stella McCartney perfected the easy, comfortable sexiness, often hard to achieve with loosely tailored, menswear-inspired looks, long before she branched out with her own label. For Fall 2011, the designer showed off that knack and more with a beautiful collection that included baggy trousers, loose chunky knits, arm-size masking full-sleeves matched with fitted bottoms, cocoon dresses, and roomy suit jackets and coats. It’s impossible to say whether her pregnancy influenced the loose, easy looks that opened McCartney’s show, but while a number of them were figure masking, the ease of their impeccable cuts made them more than a little alluring – pregnant or not.

McCartney gave us a lot more than roomy looks, however, with a slew of skin grazing evening wear that worked in sheer fabrics, wet suit-inspired cuts, and dots for a cheeky touch that recalled the playful sexiness McCartney first displayed with some of her provocative designs back in her Chloe days. The dots came in three different sizes and, in many cases, hand embroidered. Evening wear also came fashioned out of neoprene-like fabrics making for skin hugging, scuba-like dresses high on va-va-voom factor.
