It's finally time to listen to holiday music without getting the stink eye from your coworkers. Or, at least being able to retort, "It's after Thanksgiving!" I've rounded up some holiday songs as cool as the weather this snowy season. Sorry, no Bing Crosby here.
Christina Perri – Something About December
This is a new song by Christina Perri in a very traditional style. The "Jar Of Hearts" singer's voice is showcased in this sentimental ballad.
The Raveonettes – The Christmas Song
A modern classic cover from last year, I pretty much had this song on repeat all December 2011. Love the Raveonettes and they do this festive style perfectly.
Lady Gaga featuring Space Cow – Christmas Tree
After you've warmed up to the holiday spirit with some slow stuff, get the party started with this sexy, cheeky original Gaga. With lyrics like "light me up put me on top," you don't want to play this for Grandma. This fan video is pretty fantastic, too.
The Waitresses – Christmas Wrapping
This song is very love it or hate it, and I've always loved it. Can't get through the Christmas season without hearing it and I wouldn't want to. Cool video for the light fanatics, too.
The Kinks/Lit – Father Christmas
The Kinks popularized this Christmas anthem for the disenfranchised, but I am personally partial to the unreleased Lit version. If this doesn't get you up and dancing, you need some more egg nog.
She and Him – Christmas Wish
I was admittedly a little disappointed with the She and Him Christmas album, it stuck a little too closely to the old standard format for my taste. But this original is worth a few spins every season.
Blink 182 – I Won't Be Home For Christmas
If Christmas just isn't your thing, this might be just your song! The pop punk trio sticks close to their roots with this irreverent carol.
Something Corporate – Forget December
Another original that's not your typical Christmas song, it's a very emo Christmas with Something Corporate.
fun. – Sleigh Ride
A holiday classic re-imagined for the Starbucks holiday compilation "Holidays Rule." I like this one because it's very close to the original, but is rendered in the band's distinct style and wouldn't be confused for a standard rendition.
Vampire Weekend – Holiday
Another classic that's pretty close to the original, a nice upbeat tune.
