Shopping in stores: it's crazy, I know, but some of us love it. When your lifestyle is more mall than Melrose Avenue, however, it can be tough to hunt down the runway looks you're fantasizing about. That's why we're here. Sick of ordering It items off the internet? Here are some Spring 2013 trends and where to find them at a store near you.
Skip the Boutique, Avoid the 'Net; Shop Spring 2013's Hottest Looks at the Mall
Slouchy-Sophisticated Bermuda Shorts
There are fun Bermuda shorts outside of PacSun, I swear. Like this pair of Kenzo Forest Print Poplin Bermuda Shorts , $495, at Nordstrom. Too splurgy? Nordstrom also carries these Topshop Embroidered Lace Shorts for $45. A loose, long short was seen on runways like Peter Som, Rag & Bone and DKNY. (You might be able to find the sky blue shorts DKNY sent down the runway at a Macy's, Bon Ton or other department store.)
Peekaboo Pieces
A more fashion-forward trend we've been seeing and will continue to see for Spring/Summer 2013 is peekaboo cutouts on dresses and tops. This might be sort of easy to find in the Deb shops and teen emporiums of the mall, but where can you find a more grown-up version? Plenty by Tracy Reese is carried at Anthropologie, Dillards and other department stores, and this silver Plenty by Tracy Reese Peek A Boo Dress , $298 would be perfect for a wedding or special event. If you are just looking for a youthful one-off party piece, Forever 21 has too many cut-out options to even list. Look for runway inspiration at BCBG (they have stores across the country), Cushnie et Ochs and Diane von Furstenberg.
Bold Stripes
Both nautical and black and white are evergreen styles that are always chic, but bold stripes continue to be a big story on the runway. (Did everybody rip off Marc Jacobs ?) Obviously, we love the Academy Blazer from Gap , $88, and Gap loves the stripe trend since they're offering it in multiple dimensions and colorways. Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors, both available in many malls and department stores, also loved this look. It should be easy to find in a chic incarnation.
Boho Embroidery
Everyone from Isabel Marant to Valentino was showing embroidery on the runway, and this take from Ping is just as luxe looking for $168 at Anthropologie . The maxi skirt is the easy breezy summer staple you can't wait to slip into. Style this one with flip flops and a T-shirt for the ultimate in luxe casual during the day, or dress it up with a cami and flat leather thong sandals at night.
Athletic Inspired
Things always get a little bit sportier in the springtime. This LUSH Lattice-Back Bodycon Dress, $59 at Urban Outfitters takes some cues from bodycon gym wear but at a sexy new level. Short enough to wear with flats during the day, if you really want to amp it up, add heels to go out on the town. Designers like DKNY, Rag & Bone and Victoria Beckham showed sporty-chic pieces on their runways for Spring 2013.
Heels Lose Some Height
Lower-heeled shoes didn't lose any trendy appeal on the runways of Marc Jacobs and Peter Som. Take advantage of this more comfortable stiletto alternative with less vertigo inducing options like the Mix No. 6 Briel Pump , $39.95 or the Franco Sarto Festa Pump (very Prada!) , $59.95 both at DSW. Just be sure to keep the rest of your look well-tailored and current to avoid looking mumsy or frumpy in the low heels. No pantyhose!
